Hungry kids? Not this summer. Free lunch program.

June 25, 2009

It’s summer, which means fun and relaxation for many families, but also a greater expense, since school lunch programs are no longer available. In light of the tough economy, The City of Elgin and some local nonprofits, including Northern Illinois Food Bank, Salvation Army, and local churches are providing a free lunch program for kids 17 and under.

Lunch is served between 11AM and 1Pm at various locations, and kids don’t have to show an ID or prove a minimum income requirement. They just have to be under 17 and hungry! Food offered will be nutritious. There will be 50 meals at 13 locations to begin with, so 650 meals being served per day.
