Even with insurance, doctor visits, medicine, and hospital stays can get pricey. Without insurance, it could become impossible for families to get the care they need. And this is especially true in Elgin, where 13.1% of residents don’t have health insurance, compared to 7.5% of Kane County.
Thankfully, a lot of United Way of Elgin partner agencies provide the necessary services for people to get the healthcare they need. Thanks to these programs, 55,362 individuals will receive services including healthcare, crisis intervention, and counseling. A few of these programs include:
- FamilyWize prescription drug discount program, providing reduced-cost prescriptions to anyone. Print the discount card here, free.
- The Greater Elgin Family Care Center, offering a full range of medical services, including pediatric care, obstentrics, immunizations, referrals
- The Ecker Center for Mental Health, offering mental health services to adults with mental illness and their families from intervention to recovery
- Family Service Association of Greater Elgin Area, providing counseling and therapy for youth, adults, and their families
- Community Crisis Center Domestic Violence Support, for immediate safety, support, and empowerment to individuals and families dealing with the trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises.
